The American Geriatric Society’s Beers Criteria is a tool available to pharmacists that helps to identify potentially inappropriate medication use in older adults. The most recent update to the Beers criteria was published in The Journal of the American Geriatrics Society in 2019. Using a case-based approach, this course will highlight some of the key changes made in the 2019 updates to the Beers Criteria and will guide attendees in the application of this particular criteria in their clinical practices.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE activity, participants should be able to:
1. Review the intent of the American Geriatrics Society’s Beers Criteria.
2. Describe the individual sections that make up the Beers Criteria.
3. Identify the changes that occurred with the 2019 Updates to the Beers Criteria.
4. Apply the updated Beers Criteria to various clinical cases.
